New Year's should fool no one. Its usefulness is limited and short-lived. It does remind a lot of people though of what they should be doing rather than what they are doing. It also encourages many and gives hope. But all that said and felt during New Year's rather quickly fades away. After all, it is just another day.
New Year's tends to be a time of vows. Marriage is also a time for vows. But the only way to uphold vows is to live them daily. And if vows are broken, they must be mended and renewed. To live by vows means not only the will and the passion to do so, it requires the faith that the vows are worth living up to. And vows made solemnly and in sincerity usually are. Sometimes we run into people or circumstances in this world that are hard.
For some people in this world, people in wars or epidemics, life can be very difficult. But even if we did not choose our circumstances, we can always choose to live up to our standards no matter what. Unfortunately, when we don't stand up for what we believe in, grief of our own making usually strikes. So this year is going to be a great because you, day by day, are going to make it a great one. You are not going to forget how you felt at New Year's, but merely remember it as a day when you were pumped up with enthusiasm and hope. You know that the good things come through the doing. Sometimes that is easy and sometimes it hard but a joyful life without regrets is the reward. If you mess up today there's always tomorrow. Keep a positive attitude and everything will be just fine. It's going to be a great year!
